A. Water fire extinguishers are designed to combat fires involving combustible solids, such as wood, cloth and paper. The water extinguishant agent cools the fire by reducing its temperature below the ignition point of organic materials while simultaneously depriving it of oxygen. Water fire extinguishers pose no toxic threat and can be used safely in areas where food is present as well as near children or other vulnerable people such as the elderly.
A. The labels on water extinguishers are red, making them easy to distinguish from other types of extinguishers. The word 'water' will be printed in large white letters across the label.

A. No, a traditional water fire extinguisher should never be used around electrical equipment as water and electricity does NOT mix. The only exception is ‘water mist’ that has been tested and passed the di-electrical conductivity test which marks them as safe for use on live electrical equipment up to 1,000V.
