What Should A Foam Fire Extinguisher Be Used On?

Combat fires involving combustible solids and liquids, also known as Class A and Class B.

In some instances, foam can be used on electronics if dielectrically tested up to 35,000V.

How Often Should Foam Fire Extinguishers Be Serviced?

Foam fire extinguishers should be serviced once a year by a qualified engineer. This is called a basic service and checks for pressure, damage, and general condition.

Every five years, they need a full discharge test and refill to ensure they work properly. If an extinguisher is used, even slightly, it should be refilled immediately.

How Does An AFFF Foam Fire Extinguisher Work?

An AFFF foam fire extinguisher works by smothering the fire. It creates a thick foam blanket that cools the fire and seals off the air supply, cutting off oxygen.

It’s most effective on liquid fires and solid combustibles like wood or paper. The foam helps prevent re-ignition by creating a barrier between the fire and the air.
