FireShield Wet Chemical Fire Extinguisher Overview

A FireShield wet chemical fire extinguisher is a type of fire extinguisher that is commonly used for putting out fires involving cooking oils and fats in commercial kitchens, such as in restaurants and cafes. It is typically identified by a red canister with a yellow label.

Wet chemical fire extinguishers contain a special extinguishing agent that is a solution of potassium acetate. This agent is highly effective in smothering flames caused by cooking oils and fats. When sprayed onto a fire, the wet chemical agent reacts with the hot oil or fat, creating a soapy layer on the surface of the liquid, which starves the flames of oxygen and helps to extinguish the fire.

In addition to their effectiveness in fighting cooking oil and fat fires, wet chemical fire extinguishers are also safe to use on electrical fires, making them a versatile fire safety tool. However, they are not recommended for use on fires involving flammable liquids, gases, or metals.
