Water has long been the traditional method to cool a burn and is very effective. But: The casualty must stay near the water source and it is not possible to provide running water on route to hospital. To cool a burn to the forearm under running water for 15-20 minutes will require about 100 litres of water. Treating a specific area (head, face, groin) is difficult. You can cool the whole body too much and induce hypothermia especially on small bodies.
These gel soaked burns dressings are used by paramedics, hospitals, trauma and burns units and provides a protective cooling barrier giving immediate relief, preventing infection and preventing the burn progressing.
The dressing is saturated with a sterile water based gel which is non toxic, non irritant and does not contain any fats or greases.
The dressings moisturise the burn area and soothing antiseptic tea tree oil cools the skin thereby minimising trauma or continued tissue damage.
The dressings are non adhesive and can be removed with cool water or saline without causing discomfort as the gel is water soluble.
These dressings can be used on 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree burns including facial burns and scalds.
